Get carried away with books

Each year the Palmerston North Library and Community Services provide free incentive-based reading programmes over summer for children aged 4-13 years. The Summer Reading programme runs for 8 weeks during the summer holidays. Children report back to staff and volunteers about what they have been reading in a one-one situation. Then children are rewarded for their efforts with an incentive each time they report-in (min x 4). Report-ins start from Monday 30th November, with a finale event on Thursday 21st January.

The iRead Intermediate Reading programme runs during the summer holidays. There are 70 places available at Central Library, and 10 places available at Ashhurst Library. Participants write short book reviews and report back to staff about what they have been reading in a one-one situation. The children are rewarded for their efforts with a free book of their choice each time they share three written book reviews.  Participants can earn up to 5 new books during the programme!

As the programmes are very popular we run a ballot from Monday 2 November to Sunday 15 November via our website.  Hard copy forms will also be available once the ballot has opened.
