Algebra, Shape, Otago Problem Solving, Fractions and so much more…
What an action-packed term we have had in maths! Our amazing students have learnt so much, developed some crucial skills when solving problems and learnt valuable lessons in perseverance, resilience and risk-taking along the way.
Our Year 1 and 2 class has been recently learning about place value, fractions, addition and subtraction. Mrs Wyczawski is particularly proud of how her students are able to share materials into quarters and halves.
The students in Year 3 and 4 have been revisiting fractions and exploring finding a fraction of a set in a variety of ways.
In Years 5 and 6, algebra was on the menu! Our students described patterns and continued sequences in shape and number by spotting rules. They have solved equations for unknown quantities with some of our students using a letter to represent a missing number.
In Years 7 and 8, the recent focus has been on geometry. Our students have been exploring pattern, shape and movement, with lots of practical work with various materials and even a treasure hunt!
I am really looking forward to seeing what next terms brings and reflecting on the progress made throughout the course of the year.
